March happens to be a good month for me.

Hey Abyss,

These last two weeks have been amazing for me. Similar to last year, this month has proven to be a very cleansing period for me. My March Break was last week, and I worked almost everyday on prep for my Solo Show. I had forgotten what it was like to motivate myself and work on something that I am proud of. That sounds sad, but it isn't. I find myself forgetting to have fun and treat the work that we do at the school as my own, rather than an assignment I have to do.

Solo Show has been truly wonderful at this point in the year, we just came out of our first production where we as a class had to work together like a pseudo theatre company, which was an interesting first experience for some of us, and not as much for others. The whole thing (process. character development, etc.) was a mutual effort, rather than singular processes coming together. Everything is still a learning curve at this point for me, so no judgement. Solo Show is different, because it is completely singular and process based project. We write, perform and produce our own 15-20 minute show. Everyone in my class is doing something completely different, and are each having our own challenges to deal with in front of our directors/collaborators, Adam Lazarus and Jodi Essery.

The Solo Show project at NTS is a right of passage, and I give so much credit to Jodi and Adam for dedicating the time to all 13 of us (this includes the 2nd year playwrights) to make our shows what we want them to be. They truly deserve awards for the patience and attention span they both possess. My script was approved yesterday and I feel a giant weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I consider myself a rather organized performer and can only deal with one thing at a time. I have perfected my character visually, and physically, so the next step for me was getting my script done.

Half of us will be performing on March 22nd and the other half is going on the 23rd. I am really excited to see the changes to my show over the course of the next week. The anticipation to see everyone else's pieces is killing me, because I know everyone is gonna kill it. I am going to keep my show a secret at this point. but will go into more detail after I perform.

Because my class spends so much time together, it is easy to fall into the thinking of "we know so much about each other and our performance abilities", but this project is an opportunity to show our classmates that we are capable of more than what they think, and also to challenge ourselves. I cannot wait to learn something new about everyone. We are all so different, and I tend to forget that sometimes.  When we all graduate we are going back to our communities and what dreams we have in mind, we are not mutually going back together.

This thought occurred to me today; There is no sense in comparing yourself to other people because you can actually never be them. You may be able to emulate them visually, or in their mannerisms. But there is something special about each an everyone of us, and we all fit a particular role, ourselves. The issue that a lot of actors face is whether that niche is what the Casting Directors are looking for. The artists that are prevalent now, have a certain personality or image that works for them and it is the public wants to see. (e.g. Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Ryan Gosling, etc.). But the desire for their personalities will fade, and their talent will hopefully remain, especially these people.

I guess what I am trying to say is that, perhaps who you are isn't what people are looking for right now, but that doesn't mean they never will. Trends change, people become disinterested. Casting Directors are always looking for something fresh. This idea gives me hope, that if I stay true to myself and what I love, then maybe someday someone will notice me for it. And by me trying to be Ryan Gosling, or Tom Hardy is not going to make "it happen" for me any quicker. If they wanted those guys they would hire them. I have to offer me and my passion. No one else's. And Solo Show is really opening my eyes to the fact that I have more to offer than just doing a good job on cold reads, I have something that could be exactly what someone needs, and I need to own it and not wait for other people's opinions of me to act on what I love.

I want to do what inspires me, I don't want to spend the rest of my career trying to be someone else -- the trend of the week. And so I am going forward with a clear mind, and will do what I do best; being me.

Night Abyss.

The Help

Alright Abyss,

So again, another month gone by and my posting habits have failed to come into effect. Rather then makes excuses for my lack of commitment I will just fill you in on what has been happening.

As stated before in my last post I was filming a commercial that day, it was a bomb time and I had a lot of fun (how's that for short and sweet). I am hoping, considering that finally got paid for it today, that it will be airing soon. I have been auditioning a lot for things and have yet to pick something up. I leave to go back to my home town on Sunday to see my best friend perform in The Secret Garden, written by Paul Ledoux. Then I am teaching for two weeks before I leave for the BIG MO, on the 26th.

It is going to be an intense couple of weeks and I am pretty tight for money.

I have now discovered how to make kraft dinner with an iron.

I have an audition today for a new TV show that is similar to The Office only it is about teachers in a public school. It would be some awesome last minute work before I leave and get me some good coverage to boot. Here's hoping.

These next few weeks, as stated, will be mildly intense. In lieu of these trying times I vacationed to the woods last week and realizes that being one with nature for too long can drive you loopy. I was literally dying of solitude. Needless to say when I came back I felt much better about myself and had a decent tan.

Food for Thought: Spending 5 days in the woods without a whole lot of human contact can alter how you normally deal with life. This endeavor can also lead others to believe you are a serial killer.

Anyway that's about it for now. I went to see Crazy, Stupid, Love and it was brilliant. If you get the chance go see it, as well as go see the Help, which I am posting below.

EMMA STONE all the way :)

Harry Potter

Hey Abyss,

It's almost been a month since my last entry and as always a lot has happened in between posts.

I am quitting my Joe job on the 15th and will be going to teach kids ages 7-11 at a theatre in a rural area outside the city. I am stoked because the theatre is giving me accommodations while I am there and also paying for my ride up. This enables me to save some money due to the fact I am super poor and am slowly finding out how much money this trip to montreal is costing.

I seriously do not comprehend large amounts of money, like I am an avid follower of films and see how much money celebrities make and how much box office totals equal, but when it pertains to my life it just scares me to be putting so much money into one thing.

I found out last week that I am receiving a scholarship to the school which lightens the pressure some and I am truly grateful for that!

Today I am filming a commercial and am stoked for that, I just thought I would get in a post before I headed out.  It's the launch of a new product so hopefully it will get some decent air time. Look for me on a television near you!

Some one who is really inspiring me lately is Ryan Gosling. I watched the trailer for Stupid, Crazy, Love and felt I should watch all his previous movies. He is a really interesting dude, his prep for roles is inspiring and unique. He is def a method actor. I am attaching the link to Stupid, Crazy, Love below.

I am sorry to disappoint the people who read this hoping to hear about the new Harry Potter movie, I have tricked you.

Deadbeat NO MORE!

Hey,

So tonight is school eve.

If that makes sense give me a, "Whoot Whoot!"

Today was just a great day because of what tomorrow brings.

Vainly enough that sounds inspirational.

My workplace is receiving renovations so we had to move out into a small kiosk (which by the way is one of my favorite words). This was an interesting shift due to the lack of space and hostility of my fellow coworkers. For those of you who have seen my apartment you will testify to my neatness. I am self diagnosed OCD. I really like things neat and organized. So with the NEW kiosk freshly built I felt the need to implement as much organization as possible. Needless to say that was not the idea that everyone else had. It was a rough day, but went surprisingly fast.

Now, today is Sunday so I wanted to hit up the grocery store before school starts tomorrow. Every grocery store to my knowledge closes at 6pm on Sunday's. I didn't get off work till 5:34. So, I race home and jump into my car, which is playing this mind game of sorts with me lately where it doesn't start the first time and then it does the second just to make me appreciate it. After my usual second attempt I drive to the grocery store and shop as quick as I can hoping that the store wont close on me. I get up to the counter and pile everything on and apologize for coming in so close to them closing. The cashier laughs at me and replies, "we don't close till 8."  I now know that I have plenty of time to grocery shop on Sundays.

I came home and spent the evening cleaning and preparing for school tomorrow. I have a Hulk lunch bag, it grows to twice it size when it gets angry. So plenty of room for food. Speaking of the Hulk, I never understood why his pants no matter what they were always turned purple. I mean all he did was grow in mass and turn green, which I guess if it happens to you your clothes will automatically turn the color that contrasts your skin the best.

Emma Stone is my new celeb crush. Easy A is amazing and she is a babe. Movie reviews by Wayne.

Audition update. BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

School starts tomorrow! Imma get some sleep because, I've got a love and I know that its all mine.

Peace abyss.

Easy A

First of all, I am sorry that it has been over a week since my last post.

Second, I have been super busy. This provides a legitimate excuse for the statement above.

For those of you who told me to apply for the opposing company job you can have piece of mind knowing that I did indeed apply.

I have not heard anything back from them so I am to assume that I did not get the part. Which is ironic due to the amount of stress I put myself through thinking about whether to apply or not.

Audition update: I did not end up auditioning for The Fantastiks due to my already busy schedule and the fact that it was purely voluntary. I need money, I am a poor student. I have however auditioned for an educational film. I am waiting to hear back from them as to whether I received the part as I auditioned for the lead. It pays well so I am hoping for the best.

I performed the show that I have been working on on Sunday and it was alright. Monday night was thousands of times better and I know that we are going to do even better on Friday. I am proud of the group that I am working with; we were able to put together a show in about a week and people seem to really be enjoying it.

I am continuing to work constantly which of course makes my paychecks decent but does not afford me much of a social life. The good thing is that majority of my friends all started school this week so really I am not missing out on much. I am starting school on the 27th and I am stoked because I am all about routine so it will be nice to get back into that.

On the topic of social life; last night I went to see Machete and it was awesome. It ended up being a lot better than I expected. And I saw more of Jessica Alba which is more than I expected as well ;) I was thoroughly entertained. While I was there I took a picture of me and Emma Stone who was also conveniently there.

My car is making strange noises and I don't know why, but I know sound like one of those obnoxious dudes who do not own a muffler. I also drive standard which requires you to rev your engine so I just sound like a complete a-hole driving down the street. Always a great way to make good impressions.

I am really fond of the band Bahamas if you are bored and want some easy listening.

Thats all for now,

Peace Abyss
